About this course
Our General English courses combine language input with skills practice to improve your ability to use English confidently and accurately in different real-life situations. Each lesson has clear objectives to support your overall progress and to develop your fluency and accuracy.
Using a coursebook and workbook, you will study and practise using new language and your teacher will give you advice about how you can improve your English inside and outside the classroom.
Why should I choose this British Council course?
Take a General English course and you will:
- get a qualified and experienced teacher
- work in pairs and groups to develop real-life communication skills
- practise your listening, speaking, reading and writing using a range of stimulating materials and classroom activities
- become a more independent language learner
- enjoy learning English.
The right level for you
We offer General English at a range of levels. Whether you are a Beginner who can communicate only very basic information or an Upper-Intermediate student who can understand and use more complex language, we have a course for you.
If you are new to the British Council, you will need to take a placement test to find out which level is right for you. Book a placement test online, or by calling or visiting one of our teaching centres.
How will I be assessed?
At the end of the course you’ll receive a grade based on your progress in grammar and vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing.
We measure your progress to see if you are ready to move up to the next General English level. You’ll take some tests during the course. If you pass, you’ll progress to the next level. If you are not successful, you can repeat the course.
You must attend at least 16 out of 18 lessons to pass.
