We invite you to register for the Strengthening UK Alumni Networks project in the UAE.As a member of the British Council’s Alumni UK Network we seek to provide you with opportunities for career advancement, global networking and access to a range of exclusive events and resources. The British Council’s Alumni UK Network is free to join, it brings people together from around the world who have a shared experience of a UK education or British Council learning and development experience.

The British Council (“We”) is the Controller of the information that you provide for the purpose of administering your registration for the Strengthening UK Alumni Networks project and your membership in the British Council’s Alumni UK Network. This means that the British Council is responsible for determining how your information is collected and used.

By joining the British Council’s Alumni UK Network, you agree to be signed up to the British Council’s Alumni UK Network mailing list.

Collection of information about your gender identity, special medical needs, disabilities or accessibility requirements is optional, and the British Council does it to ensure the programme is adjusted to your needs, in line with the British Council’s global Policy and Standards on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

The legal basis for processing your personal data for these purposes is your consent. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time by following the unsubscribe link in the electronic newsletter.

We may send you materials such as questionnaires or surveys about your experience with the British Council and we may use your information for our research and service improvement. We do this in our legitimate interest. You also have the right to unsubscribe from such communications by clicking the link provided within each email.

For these purposes, British Council will share your personal information with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (“FCDO”), Partner in this project and acting as an independent Controller, and with following organisations, acting as Processors:

  • Hubspot, an e-mail marketing platform provider, will be used for marketing communication, https://legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy?hubs_content=www.hubspot.com/&hubs_content-cta=Privacy%20Policy
  • British Council corporate accounts for Microsoft 365 Products, will be used for registration and communication, https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement
  • Relevant partner organisations such as UK Universities, UK government departments, embassies and consulates.
  • In order to achieve the necessary purposes outlined above, your personal information will be securely transferred and/or stored in the following locations: UAE,UK, EU (Microsoft Azure), USA (Hubspot).British Council will keep your personal information for the duration of your membership in the British Council’s Alumni UK Network and will be sending you marketing communication for as long as you are subscribed. Records related to this project will be kept for 7 years after the project’s closure.
  • The British Council complies with data protection law in the UK and laws in other countries that meet internationally accepted standards.
  • You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold on you, and the right to ask us to correct any inaccuracies in that information. If you have concerns about how we have used your personal information, you also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator.
