BBC Proms Dubai promises to be a triumphant celebration of classical music
Now in its 122nd year, the BBC Proms is a much-loved British tradition that aims to bring the best classical music to as wide an audience as possible. In the UK, the Proms is an eight-week summer season of concerts, talks, workshops and family events, culminating in the famous Last Night of the Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Staged over four days from 21 to 24 March 2017 at Dubai Opera, we are bringing the magic of the iconic BBC Proms festival to Emirate audiences. The BBC Proms Dubai concerts will also be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Prom 1 – First Night of the Proms
- TUE 21 MARCH – 8:00 PM
BBC Proms Dubai opens in style with works by living composers Gary Carpenter and Mohammed Fairouz, Britten’s Piano Concerto performed by young British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor and Walton’s Symphony No 1, all under the baton of Edward Gardner.
Prom 2 – BBC Singers: ‘Inspiration in Song’
- WED 22 MARCH – 8:00 PM
The BBC Singers perform a programme of works exploring, in music and text, the tragedy of war, the imminence of death and the encounter of new love.
Prom 3 - BBC Symphony Orchestra
- THU 23 MARCH – 8:00 PM
Opening with the world premiere of Flare by Dubai-based Joanna Marsh, this programme includes works by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Elgar.
Prom 4 - Late Night Prom: Tawadros Quartet
- THU 23 MARCH – 11:00 PM
Middle Eastern-Jazz fusion from the World Music superstar, Joseph Tawadros and his Quartet. From thrilling and furiously paced numbers to beautifully introspective and tranquil tracks woven together by Joseph Tawadros’s trademark virtuosity and lyricism and the striking contemporary musicality of his oud.
Prom 5 - BBC Singers: ‘Voices from the Isles’
- FRI 24 MARCH – 2:00 PM
A choral exploration of the diverse sounds and influences of music in the British Isles, ranging from the archetypal collegiate-choir sound of Standford’s Three Motets to traditional folk songs and musical settings of great poets.
Prom 6 - Last Night of the Proms
- FRI 24 MARCH – 8:00 PM
The series of six concerts will culminate in the traditional and wildly popular Last Night of the Proms, one of the best-known and best-loved musical events of the international calendar. Edward Gardner will lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers performing Last Night favourites, including Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea-Songs, Thomas Arne’s Rule, Britannia! and Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1.
